British Safety Council awards prestigious health, safety and environmental management honours for the best performing companies worldwide in 2021

British Safety Council has announced the organisations that have been awarded the esteemed Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour Awards for their exemplary management of health, safety and environmental risks during the past year.

This year’s winning organisations come from a broad range of industry sectors in the UK, Europe, India and the Middle East, including construction, energy generation, manufacturing, hospitality, facilities management, housing, retail and transport.

The 80 Sword of Honour and eleven Globe of Honour winners demonstrated to an independent adjudication panel their proven track record of excellence in managing risks to workers’ health and safety and/or to the environment from the organisations’ activities.

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “Receiving a Sword of Honour or Globe of Honour award is truly significant as they are the most distinguished accolades in our industry. They recognise and reward organisations around the world that have excelled in their health and safety or environmental management, or both in the case of a few companies.

“I congratulate the winning organisations and their staff on their achievements and applaud them for keeping their workplace safe and healthy and contributing to safeguarding the environment. I pay tribute to all the winners for their hard work and commitment and would encourage others to look to them as standard-setters. We thank them for helping to achieve our vision that ‘no-one should be injured or made ill through their work’.”

Peter McGettrick, Chairman of British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the board of trustees and staff of British Safety Council, I congratulate the winning organisations on attaining what is the pinnacle of health, safety and environmental management. Accomplishing such distinction takes real commitment and professionalism.

“This year’s winners of Swords and Globes have demonstrated that they value what is needed in our world now more than ever in that they prioritise the health, safety and wellbeing of their employees and put the future of our planet at the core of what they do. These are what underpin and will sustain the successful businesses of tomorrow.”
