With a theme of ‘Leading Health, Safety, and Wellbeing in a Complex World’, British Safety Council will hold its 14th Annual Conference on 15 October 2024.

Paul Nowak, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) will headline the event and consider how we can keep people safe, well and happy in a world where political and economic uncertainty has become the new normal.

Chaired by leading health and safety consultant Neal Stone, the full-day event will be held online and is free to attend. The agenda includes sessions with experts in employment, security, law and business, as well as leading experts in health, safety, sustainability and wellbeing.

Highlights include panel discussions on the challenges and opportunities of operating across geographical and political borders in health, safety and wellbeing, as well as how to influence and persuade your leaders and colleagues in a complex and changing workplace.

Other sessions include leading security expert Mick Hawkes talking about Martyn’s Law, which receives its Second Reading on 14 October, on what health, safety and wellbeing professionals need to know about their new legal responsibilities for venue security. Chris Green, Partner at Keoghs, will also deliver a health and safety legal update.

Conference delegates will also hear about major new research, undertaken by British Safety Council and Institute of Occupational Medicine on workplace wellbeing, called ‘Being Well in a Changing World’.

Peter McGettrick, Chairman of British Safety Council, said: “We are excited to be holding our Annual Conference online, and be able to make it a free event once again. This year we are looking at how organisations can best support the health, safety and wellbeing of their people in a world of change and uncertainty.

“Join us on 15 October to explore new strategies for navigating these challenges and the best ways to lead health, safety and wellbeing in a complex world.”

Attendees to this free event will explore building resilience; managing health and safety across diverse settings; emerging wellbeing practices that can be embedded across their own organisations; how to stay informed and prepare for legislative and legal changes; and how to strengthen their own impact within their organisation’s health and safety culture.
