Engagement is a broad category but at its heart is working together to improve our safety, health, wellbeing and environment. Some of the questions include who do we engage with, how and on what topics. These Frequently Asked Questions should help you understand more about our engagement activity.

Here is a list of common questions that people ask us. If you can’t find what you’re looking for please email [email protected] or call us on +44 (0)20 8741 1231.

Are we a campaigning organisation?

Yes - we have campaigned for 60 years to influence decision makers and further our vision that no-one should be killed, injured or made ill by their work. Some of our biggest successes including the introduction of seat belt laws, the creation of comprehensive health and safety laws and banning substances such as asbestos.

As an independent organisation we are free to call for new measures to reduce risks and improve protections for people and the environment.

Who do we engage with?

We regularly engage with our corporate members, including their workers, to understand the risks they face and control. We also engage with journalists to publicise latest research or campaigns and maintain a high public profile on the most important issues.

Our engagement with politicians and civil society is crucial for us to influence health, safety and environmental law and policy.

How do we engage?

We engage on multiple channels. We regularly meet members, the regulator and other stakeholders to discuss issues and start new relationships, including through our Sector Interest Groups and at seminars and events. We actively engage through our electronic and social media channels, as well as through print.

We also collaborate on campaigns, such as through our Keep Thriving and Time to Breathe campaigns.

How can I get involved?
