SafeSite Facilities is a UK-based company providing the hire, sale and installation of non-mechanical safety and security equipment.
Having attended one of British Safety Council’s free Keep Thriving webinars, SafeSite Facilities became one of five successful recipients of up to £10,000 of Keep Thriving funding from British Safety Council.
SafeSite wanted to address stress, poor morale and high absence rates, following a challenging time for their business. Keep Thriving funding has allowed them to explore their workforce's wellbeing challenges, develop a wellbeing strategy, and provide resources to improve worker wellbeing.
In seeking to develop their wellbeing strategy, SafeSite set three core objectives:
- To promote a workplace wellbeing culture
- Develop a wellbeing mindset
- Use wellbeing to support people, the planet, and profits.
As part of their commitments to promoting a wellbeing culture and developing a wellbeing mindset, SafeSite provided resources to allow their workers to learn about wellbeing, evaluate their own lifestyles, and take active steps to improve personal and collective wellbeing. Their core values have evolved through a dedicated focus on promoting workplace wellbeing, emphasising collaboration, responsibility, and continuous improvement. Their "One Team" philosophy highlights the importance of teamwork, where every employee collaborates towards shared goals while holding each other accountable for both safety and excellence. SafeSite prioritises a supportive environment, ensuring that safety and operational practices foster wellbeing for all team members. By encouraging ongoing learning and skill development, they empower employees to enhance their capabilities, contributing to a culture of high standards and collective success that nurtures both individual and team wellbeing.
SafeSite further used its Keep Thriving funding to make all line managers mental health champions, giving them the skills they need to start and manage difficult conversations around mental health, working to challenge stigma and creating an environment that supports its people to thrive.
In understanding the virtuous circle that exists when the domains of wellbeing (physical, psychological, emotional, and financial) are joined up, SafeSite sought to provide financial wellness training for senior leaders and provided all staff with access to financial planning and coaching.
In taking these actions, SafeSite has seen a measurable increase in staff retention rates alongside reductions in rates of sickness and unplanned absence. Monitoring the impact of wellbeing interventions over a longer period will form a part of their medium and long-term wellbeing strategy, with further data collected in an annual staff survey.
Avril Coleman, SafeSite’s Director of Business Administration said “Wellbeing in the workplace is crucial to enhance collaboration and productivity, reduce absenteeism, and foster a positive organisational culture. We are grateful for the support from the British Safety Council's Keep Thriving fund in helping us implement a wellbeing strategy that promotes mental and physical health amongst our team.”
